Girls' basketball: Moberly 60, Fulton 34

The Lady Hornets slipped to 2-13 overall and 1-6 in the North Central Missouri Conference after being throttled by the Lady Spartans on Thursday night at Roger D. Davis Gymnasium.

The contest was tied at 8-all after one quarter, but Fulton quickly squandered any momentum it had. Moberly outscored the Lady Hornets by a combined 36-14 in the second and third quarters to create a 44-22 lead.

"We mixed things up in the first quarter and got off to a great start, and had everything set up for us," Fulton head coach TJ Quick said. "But then in the second and third quarters we had a little bit of a letdown and dug ourselves a hole.

"Like they've done all season, the team didn't quit (scoring 12 points in the fourth quarter). We're just trying to learn to sustain that energy for four quarters."

Senior guard Shawnie Hempfield paced the Lady Hornets with 15 points.

Sydney Flood countered with a game-high 18 points for the Lady Spartans and Mary Dillington had 14.

Fulton (1-7) bowed in the junior varsity game 37-24. Freshman forward Sydney Hedgpath tallied a team-high eight points.

The Lady Hornets are the eighth seed for next week's Southern Boone Classic in Ashland. Fulton will go up against top-seeded Fatima in the first round at 4:30 p.m. Monday.
