Veterans, law and emergency pros invited to Veterans Week Kickoff

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. - Lt. Gov. Mike Parson is inviting all Missouri veterans, law enforcement and emergency personnel to attend a Veterans Week Kickoff event at the Missouri Capitol on Saturday.

The ceremony will feature performances by the Monticello Singers and displays by the Missouri National Guard and Highway Patrol. Special recognition will be given to all attending World War II and Korea veterans as well as veterans currently serving in law enforcement, firefighters, and emergency personnel. Motorcycles and patrol cars are welcome and encouraged.

"As a veteran of the United States Army, former sheriff of Polk County, and an advocate for the 480,000 veterans who call Missouri home, we want to recognize all those who wear the uniform to keep our state and country safe," Parson said. "I look forward to seeing all our state's veterans, law enforcement and emergency personnel at the State Capitol on Nov. 4 to say thank you for their service."

A tentative schedule is as follows:

10 a.m. - Dedication of Gold Star Memorial (northwest side of the State Capitol).

11 a.m. - Ceremony begins on south lawn.

11:15 a.m. - Speeches and recognition of veterans.

Noon to 2 p.m. - Static displays and veteran service organizations showcase.
