Owls golf team ties for second at Texas tourney

DALLAS - William Woods University junior Billy McKenzie collected individual honors as the fifth-ranked Owls golf team tied for second place in the NAIA Contenders Tournament at TPC Las Colinas on Tuesday.

The tournament was scheduled for 54 holes but was shortened to 18 due to bad weather.

William Woods compiled a 2-over par 286 in Monday's lone round to share second place with Central Oklahoma. The two schools finished 4 strokes behind team champion Texas Wesleyan University's 282. Wayland Baptist University (291) followed in fourth place and Oklahoma City (300) was fifth.

McKenzie paced the Owls by shooting a 6-under 65 to take first place individually. Sophomore Jack Clarkson also tied for 11th place for William Woods with a 1-over 72, while sophomore Alasdair McDougall ended up in a six-way tie for 21st with a 74.

Junior David Houlding was next for the Owls in a five-way tie for 27th with a 75.

William Woods competes March 21-22 in the Challenge at the Dalhousie in Cape Girardeau.
