Students from William Woods University recently visited Fulton Preschool and donated three tree-related books in honor of Arbor Day and Earth Day.
Hope Gutierrez, vice president of the campus recycling committee, Sustaining the Woods, and other members of the organization visited with students in each of the four classes April 28-29. Students involved in the project, in addition to Gutierrez, were Julia Carney, Kaila Stefka, Maci Crowder and Martin Tremper.
"We spent the day finger-painting trees, colored birds for their class tree and read books to them," she said. "We actually purchased the books and donated them to the preschool."
They donated "The Lorax" by Dr. Seuss, "Tree" by Britta Teckentrup and "The Giving Tree" by Shel Silverstein.
"The overall experience was a success - the students had a fun time painting and reading books," Gutierrez said. "We plan to do it every year around Earth Day, with fun activities. We just want to get more involved with the community."
In addition, the Biology Club celebrated Earth Day by showing the movie "The Lorax" and discussing the aesthetic and therapeutic value of trees and their critical impact on the environment. The newly formed Rotaract Club also planted a tree on campus April 22.
