Ladybirds win third place at Bowling Green

BOWLING GREEN - The No. 3 seed North Callaway Ladybirds made 11-of-13 free throws in the fourth quarter to seal their 39-30 victory over No. 4 Winfield in the third-place game of the 91st-annual Bowling Green Tournament on Friday night.

North Callaway (7-10) was only 1-of-6 from the foul line through the first three quarters and owned a slim 23-22 lead over the Lady Warriors. The Ladybirds, though, hit eight straight free throws during one stretch in the fourth quarter and took control by outscoring Winfield 16-8.

Senior guard Maddie Ausfahl put up 10 of her game-high 13 points in the second half to guide North Callaway. Senior guard Erinn Bush was next with eight points and seven rebounds, while senior center Bethany Bloss grabbed a team-high eight rebounds.

"It was a good win against a good opponent," Ladybirds head coach Matt Miller said. "We played a lot better in the second half, both offensively and defensively."

Olivia Ward led the Lady Warriors (10-6) with 10 points.

North Callaway plays a makeup non-conference game at South Callaway at 6 p.m. Tuesday.
