Hornets bow in third-place game at Southern Boone

ASHLAND - The No. 3 seed Fulton Hornets dropped the third-place game of the Southern Boone Classic to the No. 4 Linn Wildcats 78-74 in overtime Saturday.

Fulton (12-7) fell behind 17-13 after the first quarter and went into halftime trailing 33-29. The Hornets were outscored 14-9 in the third quarter and trailed 47-38. Fulton came back in the fourth quarter and had a 70-68 lead with 10 seconds remaining. The Hornets sent Linn to the line and the Wildcats made two free throws to force overtime.

"We couldn't score early again," Fulton head coach Justin Gilmore said. "Linn is a big team, we couldn't get any offensive rebounds and we let them get too far ahead. In the fourth quarter, our shots started going in. ... Our kids fought back and I'm really proud of them for that."

Senior guard Kalin Mitchell paced the Hornets with a game-high 20 points, senior guard Radarion Glover produced 14 and senior guard De'Areyon Estes added 10.

Tony Medruer led Linn with 16 points and Alec Strope contributed 15.

Fulton hosts Marshall in a North Central Missouri Conference game at 6 tonight at Roger D. Davis Gymnasium.
