Central Baptist overpowers Owls in 14-4 AMC loss

CONWAY, Ark. — The William Woods University Owls were manhandled in a 14-4 American Midwest Conference loss to the Central Baptist College Mustangs on Friday.

William Woods (25-18, 11-11 AMC) scored a run in the top of the first inning, but Central Baptist (35-14, 13-9) produced three in the bottom of the second to take a 3-1 lead. Both teams scored two runs in the third, before the Mustangs broke the game open by tallying four in the fourth and five in the fifth to build a commanding 14-3 advantage. The Owls added their final run in the seventh.

Junior third baseman Ryan Phillips had three hits, including a double, as William Woods finished with seven.

Senior starter John Cavness took the loss for the Owls. Cavness was tagged for nine runs — eight earned — on 11 hits in four innings, striking out two and walking four.

William Woods and Central Baptist closed out their series with a doubleheader Saturday. Results were not immediately available.
