North Callaway's Coleman, Schmauch headed to Class 3 meet

Steven Coleman will look to cap off his senior campaign with positive returns at the Class 3 track and field championships.

The North Callaway senior secured a trip to the event by winning the 110-meter hurdles and finishing second in the 300 at the Sectional 2 championships on Saturday at Montgomery County High School.

Ladybirds freshman Reyna Schmauch took fourth in the 3,200 to also qualify for the Class 3 championships. The top-four finishers advance to the Class 3 championships, which take place this Friday and Saturday at Lincoln University's Dwight T. Reed Stadium in Jefferson City.

Coleman matched his own school record in the 110 with a winning time of 14.55 seconds, then clocked a :41.24 in the 300 to grab runner-up honors. He also competed in the 100 (:11.58) and 200 (:22.96), finishing in eighth and sixth place, respectively.

This marks the third consecutive year Coleman has qualified for the state meet in both hurdling events. He collected his first-ever medal in 2014, taking fifth in the 300 in :40.86.

Schmauch grabbed the final qualifying spot in the 3,200, posting a time of 13:01.99. She just missed qualifying in the 1,600, tallying a time of 5:46.32 to come in fifth.

North Callaway sophomore Levi Gilman finished seventh in the 300 hurdles with a result of :45.74.
