Owls, Lady Owls both claim second place at CMU Invite

The William Woods men and women each logged second-place team showings at the Central Methodist University Invitational this past weekend.

The Owls tallied 117 points to finish behind the hosting Eagles (164), while the Lady Owls racked up 99 points to trail the Lady Eagles (153).

Junior Gabriel Dos Santos accounted for two of the William Woods men's three first-place finishes. Dos Santos won the 100-meter dash in :11.45, while taking the 200 in :23.43.

Junior Rhett Cook prevailed in the 400, crossing the line in :48.87 to just miss the NAIA "B' standard needed to qualify for the national championships.

Senior Nick Zink took third in the 100 with a time of :11.73.

Freshman Daniel Lantz claimed third in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 1:00.48 and was a part of a third-place quartet in the 3,200-meter relay. Lantz teamed with sophomore Preston Wolfe and freshmen Denver Horn and Joseph Mueller to clock a time of 3:31.94.

Sophomore Timothy Ward clocked a runner-up time of 2:05.17 in the 800. Junior Tyler Jones (2:11.85) and freshman Phillip Kuplinski (2:15.67) finished the same race in third and fifth place, respectively.

Senior Alonzo Findlay took second place in both the shot put (14.44 meters) and the hammer throw (47.82), the latter being a new personal best.

Junior Adam Smith collected fifth place in the shot put (13.55) and the hammer throw (46.78). Findlay finished fourth in the discus with a mark of 41.2, while Smith garnered fifth with a heave of 41.06, both of which were new personal bests.

Mueller set a new personal best in the triple jump, taking second place in 12.31 meters. Horn claimed third in the long jump (6.26 meters), while Wolfe finished third in the high jump at 1.6 meters.

The Lady Owls swept the top-three spots in the 100-meter hurdles. Redshirt senior Madeline Emme won the event in :15.59, while freshman Alliah McClendon (:16.09) and junior Dominica Prokup (:16.23) earned second and third place, respectively.

Freshman Megan Wilson prevailed in the 400-meter dash in a personal-best outing of 1:01.08, while finishing third in the 200 with time of :27.42.

Freshman Madelyn Scrivner notched top-three finishes and personal bests in the shot put and hammer throw, respectively.

Scrivner won the shot put with a toss of 12.16 meters, while taking third in the hammer throw with a final mark of 41.95.

Freshman Hannah Rutherford clocked a third-place time of 5:16.31 in the 1,500-meter run and was a part of William Woods' first-place 3,200-meter squad. Rutherford, redshirt senior Alex Apperson, junior Petra Bethea and freshman Rachel Barker crossed the finish line in 10:46.35.

The Owls and Lady Owls return to the Central Methodist Invitational at 11 a.m. this Friday.
