Junior forward NaShayla Brandt's 14 points paced the No. 2 seed Lady Hornets in their 65-57 loss to the No. 4 Lady Trailblazers in Saturday's fifth-place game at the Southern Boone Classic.
A slow start sunk Fulton, according to head coach TJ Quick. The Lady Hornets trailed 19-10 after a quarter and were down 37-21 going into halftime.
"We didn't come out in the first half and play; we beat them in the second half, but you have to play four quarters and we didn't," Quick said. "We only played two (quarters) and when that happens, you're going to get beat."
Fulton (11-8) outscored Tolton 36-28 in the second half, but it wasn't enough to counter a Tolton team that was locked in from the start.
"They were just ready to go from the tip," Quick said. "They were upbeat, they were making shots, they were ready for the shot and we weren't."
Junior guard Sloane Totta added 13 points for the Lady Hornets.
River Remis registered a game-high 17 points to lead the Lady Trailblazers. Lydia Hale followed with 11 points and Hope Wright finished with 10.
Fulton plays a North Central Missouri Conference contest at Marshall at 6 p.m. Monday. The Lady Hornets pummeled the Lady Owls 61-31 on Dec. 11 in Fulton.
