The William Woods University Lady Owls soccer team was unable to overcome a pair of first-half goals in a 2-0 season-opening loss to 23rd-ranked Missouri Valley College on Friday night at Firley Field.
Inmaculada Martinez assisted on Riley Kerr's opening goal in the 12th minute. Martinez took a pass from Maria Blasco and scored in the 31st minute to close the scoring for Missouri Valley.
William Woods was outshot 34-8, with the Lady Vikings holding an 8-3 edge in corner kicks. Lady Owls senior goalkeeper Ashley Parisi established a career high with 11 saves.
William Woods plays at No. 6 Benedictine (Kan.) College at 5 p.m. today.
