After waiting out an 85-minute weather delay Friday, the William Woods University Lady Owls softball team recovered from its slow start in game one to sweep Benedictine University-Springfield in the quarterfinals of the American Midwest Conference postseason tournament.
Senior pitcher Kelsey Schulte went the distance in both games at Backer Field as No. 2 seed William Woods moved its season record to 30-17. The Lady Owls prevailed in the opener 10-4 and then eliminated Benedictine-Springfield with a 9-2 triumph in the nightcap.
The Lady Owls advanced to the semifinals and will host No. 3 seed Park University in a best-of-three series starting at 2 p.m. Tuesday.
