Lady Bulldogs claim share of MMC title

The South Callaway Lady Bulldogs put themselves in position to claim part of the Mid-Missouri Conference softball championship.

South Callaway sophomore third baseman Abby Bartley drove in sophomore shortstop Bailey Ward with the winning run with one out in the bottom of the seventh inning Tuesday night, sending the Lady Bulldogs to a 6-5 MMC win over the North Callaway Ladybirds.

South Callaway raised its season record to 14-3 and improved to 3-1 in the MMC, assuring itself at least a share of the conference title. Southern Boone, with a win over Harrisburg, would split the MMC championship with the Lady Bulldogs.

The loss dropped North Callaway to 5-9 overall and 2-2 in conference play.

South Callaway raced out to a 4-0 lead after putting up three runs in the first and one in the second. The Ladybirds cut their deficit in half by tallying a pair of runs in the fourth, but the Lady Bulldogs answered with a run in their half of the inning to make it 5-2.
