For several years, the Callaway County Ambulance District, Fulton Fire Department and North Callaway Fire Protection District have hosted a series of Safe Kids child safety seat checks in Fulton, encouraging area residents to make sure their children are properly secured when traveling. At one recent event, 28 seat checks were performed, and 18 new child safety seats (provided by a grant through the Missouri Department of Transportation) were given to caregivers at no cost.
Thanks to a grant from State Farm Insurance, the three organizations now will be able to take those safety checks on the road to other locations throughout the county.
With the $2,500 grant, the three emergency service agencies have purchased a trailer and necessary equipment to set up mobile child safety seat check stations, and have planned a number of inspections: Noon until 3 p.m. on Sept. 25 at Auxvasse Elementary School; 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. on Oct. 8 at North School in Holts Summit during the Holts Summit Fall Festival; and 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. on Oct. 22 at the old Moser's Grocery Store lot in Fulton.
