Junior shortstop Zach Lavy and senior first baseman Paul Risher drove in three runs apiece Thursday night to spark the North Callaway Thunderbirds to a 13-3 romp over Montgomery County.
North Callaway tacked on two runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to end the game on the 10-run rule.
With the Thunderbirds (3-0) already in front 3-1, Risher responded with a two-run single as part of North Callaway's seven-run outburst in the second. He went 1-for-3 with an RBI fielder's choice in the fourth and also scored a run.
Lavy finished 3-for-4 with a double, two singles, three runs scored and a stolen base as the Thunderbirds collected eight hits. Senior starter Grant Cundiff - who earned the victory - was also 2-for-3 with a pair of singles, three runs scored and two stolen bases.
"I thought we were very disciplined at the plate," North Callaway head coach Kevin O'Neal said. "We did a good job in some key situations."
Cundiff allowed three runs - two earned - on seven hits in four innings. He struck out four and walked one.
The Thunderbirds (2-0) won the junior varsity game 5-2.
North Callaway visits Fulton for a matchup against the Hornets at 5 p.m. today at Hensley Field. The Thunderbirds then play a makeup game at Blair Oaks at 1 p.m. Saturday.

ASHLAND - Senior left fielder Aaron Bedsworth had four hits and knocked in four runs to ignite a 17-hit rampage Wednesday night, helping the Wildcats collect their first win of the season.
Bedsworth finished 4-for-4 with a pair of doubles, two singles and two runs scored. Senior first baseman Zach Rehagen also hit a three-run home run for New Bloomfield (1-2).
"We actually started playing like we had knocked the rust off," Wildcats head coach Brandon Talbot said. "Everybody was hitting the ball."
Senior starter Kolby O'Dowd earned the victory for New Bloomfield. O'Dowd recorded 10 strikeouts and issued three walks in five innings of work.
"When Kolby got in trouble, he battled out of it," Talbot said.
The Wildcats face Linn at 9 a.m. Saturday in the first round of the Fatima Tournament at Westphalia.

Junior second baseman Nick Genetti and junior designated hitter Mike Young both drove in two runs as the Blue Jays opened SLIAC play Wednesday night with a win over the Griffins at Saucier Field.
Genetti went 2-for-4 and hit his first home run of the season, a one-out solo shot to right in the bottom of the fifth inning. He also supplied an RBI single in the first to put Westminster College on top 2-0.
Young finished 1-for-5, coming through with a two-run single later in the fifth to give the Blue Jays a 7-2 lead. Genetti scored two runs and Young scored once.
Freshman center fielder Andy Pichler was also 2-for-3 with two runs scored for Westminster (6-8), which was out-hit by Fontbonne 10-8 but benefitted from four errors by the Griffins (4-11, 0-1 SLIAC). The Blue Jays, who stopped a two-game losing streak, stranded 12 baserunners.
Senior first baseman Andrew Jett provided an RBI single in the fourth for Westminster, while senior left fielder V.J. Reynolds drove in a run with a sacrifice fly in the first.
Blue Jays junior starter Gary Johnson allowed three runs - two earned - on seven hits over seven innings to pick up the victory. Johnson (3-1) struck out two and walked two.
Westminster hosts a three-game St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference series against MacMurray (Ill.) College, starting with a nine-inning game at 6 tonight. The two teams will then play a noon doubleheader Saturday.

GREENVILLE, Ill. - The Blue Jays raised their season record to 5-3 on Wednesday, downing the Panthers in a St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference matchup for their third straight victory.
After sweeping the three doubles matches, Westminster College secured the team win with singles victories from sophomore Anthony Becker, freshman Alec Belden, sophomore Kyle Tolbert and junior David Berry.
The Blue Jays host SLIAC foe Fontbonne University at 11 a.m. Saturday. Westminster then plays conference opponents Webster University (10 a.m.) and Eureka (Ill.) College (1 p.m.) on Sunday in St. Louis, before travelling to NCAA Division II Quincy (Ill.) College for a 4 p.m. match Monday.
