Amazing how we can defend Ameren when they operate plants like Labadie (their largest in MO) without modern pollution controls. Ameren's plants are old and produce tons of toxins. When I say "tons" I mean for example, the Labadie Power Plant releases over 72 million tons of SO2, NOX, CO2, particulate mater, volatile organic compounds, acid gases and mercury per year (Source: MSB Energy Associates, Clean Air Task Force). In Missouri 1.2 million children are impacted by exposures to these toxins because they live within 30 miles of one of our 20 coal-fired plants. I am worried about them. More specifically, I am worried about my niece and nephew. These toxins impact brain development and lung function...not to mention, increase risk of cancer over someone's lifetime. I worry about jobs just like everyone, but do we sacrifice our health and children for jobs? Why not build a safer, cleaner energy system that produces even more jobs?

How about nuclear power? it produces constant high yield baseload power and no greenhouse gases.

And less radiation than coal fired plants to air around it. We should have built 10x as many!!!
