Abby Williamson, 9, talks about the Pony Express to two fifth-grade girls Friday. Fourth graders at South Callaway Elementary School presented on various Native American tribes and subjects related to Native American culture. Fourth-grade teacher Kathy Zimmerman said through the projects, her students were able to advance their research skills, learn about early European settlement and the impact Europeans had on the Native Americans. “I want them to learn about the diversity of the different Native American cultures to get away from that stereotypical Native American image that they often have,” Zimmerman said.
