Sophomore Matt Malinski lifts one end of a railroad tie while sixth-graders Sam Slaughter and Trey Jones raise the other end. The boys helped to remove old wooden ties from an outdoor classroom area Tuesday at Williamsburg Elementary School.

When seventh-grader Katerina Roesner heard one of the first tasks to clean up the outdoor classroom at Williamsburg Elementary School was pulling weeds, she jumped right in.
