Marion Eugene "Gene" Hardin, 86, of Fulton, Mo., passed away Monday, June 9, 2014, at the Missouri Veterans Home in Mexico, Mo. He was born September 26, 1927, in Columbia, Mo., a son of the late Dewey and Rachael (McCallister) Hardin. He was a graduate of University High School in Columbia, Mo. On November 27, 1984, Gene was united in marriage in Fulton, Mo., to Lelia Fae Edwards-Warfield, who survives at their home. Gene worked for Iron Worker Local 396 in St. Louis, Mo., for 35 years, until his retirement in 1989. He was a veteran of the United States Navy and the United States Air Force, where he served his Country for fifteen years. Gene was a member of the Shriner's, Scottish Rite, and the VFW Post #2657 in Fulton, Mo. He enjoyed woodworking, fishing, and was an avid fan of the St. Louis Cardinals. He also loved to spend time with his family. Along with his wife Lelia, Gene is also survived by a daughter, Carol Pickering (husband Jerry) of Las Vegas, Nev.; two grandchildren and three great-grandchildren of Las Vegas, Nev.; four step-children, Julie McDow (husband, Steve), Susan Sheley, Michael Warfield and Teresa Warfield all of Fulton, Mo.; fifteen step-grandchildren and fifteen step-great-grandchildren; one sister, Louise Lawson (husband, Doug) of Columbia, Mo.; three brothers, Wesley Hardin (wife, Sandy) of Bossier City, La., Leslie Hardin (wife, Wanda) of Columbia, Mo.; and Donald Hardin (wife, Patty) of Columbia, Mo. He was also preceded in death by five siblings, J.R. Hardin, Edward Hardin, Dewey Hardin, Jr., William Francis Hardin, and Helen Kircher. Friends will be received from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Thursday, June 12, 2014, at the Slater-Millard Family Funeral Chapel in Holts Summit, where a Masonic Service will be held at 3:45 p.m., at the funeral home. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, June 13, 2014, at the Slater-Millard Family Funeral Chapel, with Rev. Bruce Williamson and Fr. Greg Oligschlager officiating. Interment with Full Military Honors will follow in the Steedman Cemetery in Steedman, Mo.. Expressions of sympathy may be made to the Missouri Veterans Home, One Veterans Way; Mexico, MO 65265.
