Charles “Chuck” Edward Laughlin

Charles Edward "Chuck" Laughlin, 71, of Mokane, passed away on Wednesday, January 8, 2014, at his home surrounded by his family. He was born March 19, 1942, in Washington, Mo., the son of the late Frank Laughlin and the late Edna Belle (Ramey) Laughlin. Chuck was united in marriage to Peggy (O'Neal) Laughlin on October 29, 1976. She survives his passing. Chuck was of the Catholic faith. He proudly served his country in the United States Army. He was a lifetime member of AmVets and the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW). For many years, he worked as a heavy equipment operator at the Mokane Sand Plant, which he and his brothers owned and operated. After the sale of the Sand Plant, he continued operating equipment with the International Union of Operating Engineers (IUOE) Local 513. He enjoyed the outdoors, especially hunting, fishing, and trapping, as well as his morning coffee at the Hams Prairie Store. He most enjoyed spoiling his grandkids. His memory will live on in the hearts of his wife, Peggy; sons, Chad E. (Rebecca) Laughlin and Douglas M. (Jennifer) Patrick; daughters, Taylor Laughlin, Wendy Laughlin-Custard, Dawn (Donnie) DeBrodie, and Bonnie Jo Laughlin; grandchildren, Sam DeBrodie, Megan Custard, Abbi Patrick, and Easton Patrick; brothers, Sam (Joy), Clarence "Skip", Russell (Sharon), and Robert "Monk" Laughlin; and sisters, Margaret Sessler and Lois (Bob) Spencer. He was preceded in death by sisters, Sally Wilson, Betty Lou Laughlin, and Mary "Sis" Ward. Memorial services will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, January 17, 2014, at Maupin Funeral Home with Father Frank Bussmann and Danny Hockemeyer officiating. The family will receive friends from 4:00 p.m. until the time of service at the funeral home.
