Lewis E. Smith, 89, of Clark, Mo, passed away Monday, February 24, 2014, at Heritage Hall Nursing Facility in Centralia, Mo. Lewis was born January 8, 1925 in Sturgeon, Mo., to Norman and Bertha Smith. He was drafted twice into the U.S. Army, and served from 1948 to 1951. Lewis married Betty Jean Brown in Columbia, Mo., on March 1, 1952. He worked in telecommunications for 42 years. Lewis very much enjoyed fishing, hunting, camping with his family, gardening, bird watching, and going dancing with his wife, Betty. He and Betty also took advantage of their ability to travel after retirement. In his later years, Lewis spent a lot of time reading books about nature and watching the outdoors and history channels on television. In addition to his wife, Lewis is survived by three children, Pamela Marinelli (Michael) of Sun Valley, Calif., Michael Smith (Harriet) of Fulton, Mo, and Paul Smith of Holt Summit, Mo.; three grandchildren, Roman Schuh, Amanda Smith, and Maggie Fletcher (Dustin); one great granddaughter, Lydia Smith; one faithful, four-legged companion, his beloved dog, "Buddy"; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Lewis was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Edson Smith; two nephews; and two nieces. Visitation will be held at Memorial Funeral Home, Friday, February 28, 2014, from 5:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. Funeral Service will be held at Memorial Funeral Home, Saturday, March 1, 2014 at 10:00 a.m., with a graveside immediately following in Memorial Park Cemetery.
