Laverne M. (Schwentker) Clingman, 86, of Fulton, Missouri, passed away at Fulton Manor on Sunday, February 16, 2014, after a long battle with cancer. She was born in her parent's home on October 5, 1927, in New Haven, Missouri, the daughter of the late Oscar Charles Schwentker and the late Ida Meta Hiatt-Schwentker. On October 18, 1945, she was united in marriage to Raymond Kyle Clingman who preceded her in death on February 11, 2010. They would have shared their 68th wedding anniversary this year. Laverne worked for the International Shoe Company for 10 years and continued to work for Samuels Shoe Company for an additional three years before becoming a full time housewife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She enjoyed reading, working in her flowers, gardening, and most of all, her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Her favorite holidays over the years were Christmases spent with her large families and Easters spent celebrating the resurrection of Jesus Christ. Laverne was a very family oriented and loving individual. She taught Sunday School for 10 years at the St. Paul's Lutheran Church located in Fulton, Missouti where she has been a member since the early 1940's. Laverne will be sadly missed and loving remembered by one son, Ronnie Clingman; one daughter, Doris Custard and her husband James "Deke"; one sister-in-law, Bernadine Clingman; eight grandchildren, Tammie (Greg) Doerhoff, Ronald (Jill) Custard, Steve Custard (Joanne Mackey), Mark (April) Custard, Kerry Custard (Glen Stancil), Melinda (Dean) Schoening, Lance (Tracy), Clingman and Kylie (Brent) Wingrath; 14 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild; numerous nieces and nephews; and many dear friends. She was preceded in death by both of her parents and one sister, Bernice Emma Schwentker, who was born on December 17, 1931, and died at the young age of 20. She was also preceded in death by one great-grandson, Dalton Clingman, and one daughter-in-law, Rometta Clingman. Funeral service will be held at 12:00 noon on Thursday, February 20, 2014, at Maupin Funeral Home with Reverend David Mueller officiating. The family will receive friends from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service. Interment will be in Callaway Memorial Gardens.
