Phyllis Churchill

1948 - 2013

Phyllis A. Churchill, 64, of Columbia, and formerly of Fulton,, passed away on Wednesday, March 20, 2013, at her home. She was born November 17, 1948, in Fulton, the daughter of the late John Henry Owens and the late Ella Mae (Cole) Owens. On December 28, 1996, she was united in marriage to Clifford Churchill in Fulton. He survives at the home. Phyllis worked as a corrections officer for the Missouri Department of Corrections for more than 20 years, retiring in 2004. She then worked as a teacher at Nora Stewart Daycare. She was a talented cook and enjoyed gardening, being outdoors, and spending time with loved ones. Phyllis was a strong willed woman, determined to live her life to the fullest. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church. In addition to her husband, Phyllis will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by one son, Thomas Galbreath of Jefferson City; two daughters, Anikka Chambers and husband, Gerald, of Jefferson City, and DeShawna Galbreath of Fulton; two step-sons, Nicklous Churchill of Farmington, and Clifford Churchill Jr. of Quincy, Ill.; two step-daughters, Rachel Churchill of Columbia, and Shelly Jones of Monroe City; one brother, James Cole and wife, Edith, of Fulton; 13 grandchildren, Nakisha, Kenisha, Brailyn, Kade, KeAsia, Zanae, Rajohn, Markel, Donta, Asia, Cheyenne, Jaden, and Gerald Jr.; numerous nieces and nephews and many who loved her. In addition to her parents, Phyllis was preceded in death by one sister, Mildred Glover; and one grandson, Cory. Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, March 26, 2013. at Maupin Funeral Home in Fulton with Reverend Maurice Cole officiating. Visitation will be from 12:00 p.m. until the time of service on Tuesday also at Maupin Funeral Home. Interment will be held at Southside Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the John C. Harris Community Center c/o Maupin Funeral Home, 301 Douglas Blvd., Fulton, MO 65251. Repast will be held at the John C. Harris Community Center in Fulton following the services.
