James Louis (Jim) Freshour, 85, of Columbia, passed away on January 5, 2013, at South Hampton Place in Columbia. He was born January 11, 1927, at the home of his grandmother, Victoria Lee Bounds, in Greenville, the son of the late James Everett and the late Lydia (Bounds) Freshour. On May 4, 1952, he was united in marriage to Edna Mae Laux in the Methodist Church at Fulton, Mo. Edna preceded him in death on July 16, 2007. Jim grew up on a farm in Lepanto, Ark., until his family moved to a farm at Salcedo, Mo., and he graduated from Morehouse High School. The family then moved to Oran where Jim was farming until he was drafted into the United States Army on September 28, 1950. After basic training at Ft. Knox, Ky., he was shipped out to the Korean War. Jim was assigned to the 7th Army Division as a Sergeant in Ordinance until his honorable discharge in June, 1952. Jim spent most of his life as a self-employed farmer in Callaway County. Reading was his favorite pastime, but he was never happier than when "turning ground" from the seat of a tractor.
