Margaret Sue (White) Payne, 84, of Fulton passed away Tuesday, February 19, 2013, at Landmark Hospital in Columbia, surrounded by family. She was born April 11, 1928, in Williamsburg, the oldest of five children born to the late George and Nellie White. On November 1, 1947, she was united in marriage to Emmett F. Payne, who preceded her in death after 54 years of marriage. Sue graduated from Fulton High School with the class of 1947. She was a gentle, kind, compassionate person who never had a bad thing to say about anyone. Sue was a lover of animals who would never hurt anything. She was a great example of a grandparent who simply adored all her grandchildren. Sue was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother. Sue will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by two sons, Emmett F. Payne Jr. and wife Terri of Blue Springs, and John R. "Ronnie" Payne and wife Jeanie of Columbia; one step-daughter, Norma Jean Ashworth and husband Jerry of Wellington, Fla.; four grandchildren, Chris Payne and wife Stacey, Aaron Payne and wife Jessica, Jennifer Gibson and husband Tobias, and Brooke Dennison and husband Josh; seven great-grandchildren, Kennedy and Harrison Payne, Jakob and Torin Gibson, and Alec, Addie, and Aston Dennison; two brothers, George White and wife Joan of Shafter, Calif., and James White and wife Mary of Bay City, Texas; two sister-in-laws, Shirley White of Mexico and Molly White of Mineola; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband and her parents, Sue was preceded in death by two brothers, John White and Ray White. Funeral services will be 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 23, 2013, at Maupin Funeral Home in Fulton with Pastor Bruce Williamson officiating. Visitation will be from 3:00 p.m. until the time of service on Saturday, also at Maupin Funeral Home. Interment will be held at Callaway Memorial Gardens.
