Harry Irick

December 24, 1937 - April 11, 2013

Harry Kenneth Irick, JR., 75, passed away at his home in Shawnee, Kan. on April 11, 2013, surrounded by his loving family. He is the son of Harry Kenneth, Sr. and Beulah Mae (Needham) Irick, born on Dec. 24, 1937. He married Melinda McPherson of Fulton, in 1957. To this marriage were born three children, Deborah Gutteridge of Kansas City, Lori Monger and husband, Terry of St. Joseph, and Andrew Irick and wife, Diana of Broken Arrow, Okla.; three grand-daughters and one great-grandson, Wesley Irick. He was a retired heavy equipment mechanic, having worked for Shawnee Construction, Mountain Plains Construction and Clarkson Construction Company. He was an active member of the First Baptist Church of Turner in KC, Kan. where he served as a trustee. He enjoyed gardening after his retirement, watching Jayhawk basketball and traveling to his winter home in Weslaco, Texas where he made many friends. He especially enjoyed playing shuffleboard and traveling to Progreso, Mexico where he spent a good deal of time working on schools, houses, and distributing candy, clothes, etc. to the colonias. In 1998, Kenny married Joanne (Hayes) Johnson of Turner, Kan., who survives him. She brought to the marriage three children, Joni Bocelewatz and husband, Michael, Marilyn Muro, and Jay Johnson and wife, Carol; ten grandchildren and four great-grandchildren, Lizzie Bocelewatz, Stella Rose Thompson, and Austin and Brock Feaster. He was preceded in death by his parents and is survived by his sisters, Colleen Wallace of Apple Valley, Cali., and Barbara Small and husband, Clifton of Liberty, MO and Palmetto, Flo.; and many nieces and nephews. Visitation will be 5 - 8 p.m., Sunday April 14, at Maple Hill Funeral Home, where the funeral service will be 11 a.m. Monday. Burial at Maple Hill Cemetery.
