Jewell Raycene Kennett Chandler

Jewell Raycene Kennett Chandler, 95, of Denver, Colo., formerly of Dallas, Texas, died peacefully in her sleep of natural causes at the Briarwood Healthcare Center, Denver, Colo., where she was tenderly cared for by the Briarwood staff, hospice and by her faithful daughter, Claire Chandler Evans, and granddaughters Sarah Evans and Allison Evans Schneider. Mrs. Chandler, born in Millersburg, was the eldest child of the late Ernest Ray and Frankie Coons Kennett of Callaway County. She was the widow of the late Hollis B. Chandler of Trenton, and Dallas, Texas. She attended Christian College, Columbia, was a graduate of William Woods College, Fulton, (now William Woods University) where she was honored as ìTown Queen.î Upon graduation, she taught at the former ìWest Schoolî in Fulton. Later in her career she again taught elementary school in Callaway County. After having moved to Dallas, Texas, she began a very successful career in the savings and loan industry. She was the first woman branch manager of a savings and loan in the State of Texas and was honored by the organization of Business Professional Women, of which she was a long-time member. For nearly four decades she attended the Lakewood Christian Church in Dallas, Texas, where she served several terms as church treasurer and Sunday School teacher. After the death of her husband of 55 years, Hollis B. Chandler, she relocated to Glenwood Springs, Colo., to be near her daughter, Claire Evans and Claireís loving family. Jewell Kennett Chandler, who in her youth was known throughout Callaway County as a great beauty, was a loving daughter, sister, wife and mother, as well as a tender grandmother and loyal friend. Her memory will be cherished by all who knew her. She is survived by: one sister, Ruth Kennett Eastep (93) of Rapid City, S.D. and daughters Katherine Elaine Chandler Lloyd, Richmond, Va. and Lesta Chandler Lamb, Houston, Texas. In addition to the granddaughters mentioned above, she is survived by: seven grandchildren, Paul G. Tutt, Houston, Texas, Kirsten and Houston Lloyd, Richmond, Va., Joni Miller, Sherman, Texas, Kyle and Natalie Turner, Houston, Texas, Laura Lamb, Denver, Colo.; grandsons-in-law, Messrs Keith Miller of Sherman, Texas, Josh Rice of Basalt, Colo. and William Schneider, Denver, Colo.; granddaughter-in-law, Krisi Turner of Houston, Texas; great-grandchildren, James Tutt, Fulton, Jessica Tutt Tanner, Erin Tutt, Lynchburg, Va., Jackson and Shepherd Schneider, Denver, Colo., Tate and Marie Rose Rice, Basalt, Colo., Karilynn Turner, Houston, Texas, Amanda and Austin Miller, Sherman, Texas and Dustin Sean Tutt, Gainesville, Fla.; and great-great-grandchildren Adrianna and Christopher Tutt, Fulton, and Hadley (Tutt) Tanner. Memorial services will be held in Richmond, Va. and Denver, Colo.
