1913 - 2012
Dorothy "Alfreida" McLamb, 98, of Fulton, Mo., went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, March 8, 2012, at Fulton Manor Care Center. She was born October 2, 1913, in Fulton, the daughter of Robert Scott Whyte and Vina Logan Brown Whyte. She was a good student and graduated from the Old North School in Fulton and Lincoln Laboratory in Jefferson City, Mo. Alfreida was the pianist for the Ladies Chorus at Calvary Baptist Church in Fulton and worked as a housekeeper at the State Hospital. She married Rev. James E. McLamb on Thanksgiving 1956. They were attended by her sister, Ella Whyte and Rev. H.F. Dean. The newlyweds moved to Kansas City, Mo.. where Rev. McLamb was the associate pastor at Paseo Baptist Church and Alfreida worked as the church secretary. In the mid 60's, the Lord called Rev. McLamb to Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church in Sioux City, Iowa and Alfreida became the first lady of that congregation. After Rev. McLamb passed in 1972, Alfreida returned to Fulton and became quite active in church functions and worked on the Anniversary Committee for years, attended Baptist conventions and Martin Luther King Day celebrations. She was committed to voter registration and served as a poll worker. She was also a member of the Alexander Art Club and volunteered her time in the card shop at Callaway Community Hospital. Later Alfreida generously became the loving, tireless caretaker for her sister at home and in Fulton Manor. She was a socialite and loved to entertain family and friends. She was meticulous about recipes and set good etiquette standards for all her nieces. She leaves to cherish her precious memories: great-nieces, Cheralyn (Cooky) Randall of Milwaukee, Wis., Vicki (Joseph) Dixon of Pontotoc, Miss., Carmen (Robert) Lewis of St. Louis, Mo., DeShawn (Jeffrey) Barnes of Elkart, Ind., Eunice (Wilson) Barnes of Sioux City, Iowa; plus 39 great-great-nieces and nephews; sister-in-law, Anna Mae Conover; cousin, Jessie Bradford; and special friends, Sandra Richmond and Lenore Gibson.
