Betty Jo Vann

August 6, 1940 - November 28, 2012

Betty Jo Vann, 72, of Eldon, Missouri, passed away Wednesday, November 28, 2012, at Boone Hospital Center in Columbia, Missouri. On August 6, 1940, she was born in Miller County, Missouri, the daughter of the late Roscoe Denny and Madie (McBroom) Denny Pendleton. On January 22, 1961, she was united in marriage in Eldon, Missouri, to Howard Gene Vann, who survives of the home. Betty Jo was a very active member of the First Christian Church of Eldon and held multiple positions within the church. She attended the Graduate School of Banking at Madison University in Madison, Wisconsin. Betty Jo was a member of the Eldon Garden Club holding all the offices along with serving as President of the State Garden Club, President of the Missouri Women's Bank Association, and a member of the Osage River Antique Power Association. She was active with the Eldon School District, the Friends of Music, PTA and within the Eldon community for various organizations. Betty Jo worked for 25 years at the Bank of Eldon, now US Bank. Betty Jo dearly enjoyed her grandchildren and spending time with her family. The Christmas season was her favorite time of the year. Others surviving her include: son and daughter-in-law, Dr. J.W. Vann and his wife Cindy of Fulton, Missouri; daughter and son-in-law, Teresa Griffith and her husband Ellery of Independence, Missouri; three grandchildren, Jason Vann, Justin Vann, and Lauren Dupont; sister and brother-in-law, Donna Sue Hoskins and her husband Barry of Warrensburg, Missouri; two nephews, several great- nieces and nephews. Her parents preceded her in death. Visitation will be Sunday, December 2, 2012 from 4:00 - 7:00 p.m., at Phillips Funeral Home of Eldon, Missouri. Funeral Service will be Monday, December 3, 2012, at 11:00 a.m. at the First Christian Church of Eldon, Missouri with Rev. Shirley Williams officiating. Interment will follow at the Eldon City Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials for Betty Jo are suggested to the First Christian Church Building Fund.
