Earl K. "Jack" Harris, 85, of Fulton, passed away Friday, July 22, 2011, at his home. He was born August 8, 1925, in Callaway County, the son of Charles Astel and Annie Elizabeth Lander Harris. Jack proudly served his country during World War II earning three Bronze Stars, a Good Conduct Medal, and a Purple Heart. He worked various jobs throughout his life as a truck driver, farmer, in food service, and machinist at the Fulton State Hospital Power Plant. He could be found most mornings enjoying coffee with friends at Merten's Mini Mart. Though he is the last of his generation, he is survived by numerous nieces and nephews. Jack was preceded in death by his special friend of more than 60 years, Ruth "Margaret" Stephenson. He was also preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Charles "Pete" Harris, Ernest Harris, Irvin "Bear" Harris, and Doyle Harris; and four sisters, Lottie Morris, Nellie Morris, Pearl Edwards, and Gertrude Allen. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Monday, July 25 at Debo Funeral Home in Fulton with Pastor Bruce Williamson officiating. Interment with full military honors will follow at Mt. Carmel Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 4 until 6 p.m. on Sunday, July 24 at the funeral home. In lieu of customary memorials, the family suggests donations be made in Jack's name to the Foundation for American Veteran's, Disabled Veteran's Services or the organization of the donor's choice, c/o Debo Funeral Home, P.O.
