Robert E. "Bob" Fischer, 86, of Fulton, peacefully passed on Thursday, June 27, 2019, while living at Presbyterian Manor. Bob was preceded in death by his loving wife (Betty) last year. Affectionately known as "Bob & Betty", together they were a spirited, friendly and smiling couple for over 60 years. Traveling for both was always enjoyable. They easily made friends everywhere and surrounded themselves in life with great friends and family. With the exception of a few years, while he served the country in the Korean War, he was a life-long resident of Fulton, Missouri. That time away, while in the Army, he was a Sergeant with the 841st Engineers which built, maintained and defended Air Strips for the B-25 Bombers and A-1 Sabra Jet Fighters. Medals received were the National Defense Service, Missouri Korean War Veteran and United Nations Service. Bob was proud of his family's Fulton heritage. Born on August 14, 1932 to George and Edna (Bonard) Fischer, he was the seventh of eight siblings which included Marvin (Mabel), Wallace (Bea), Louise (Leo Leopold), Leonard (Edna Marie), Homer (Peggy), Juanita (Marlyn White) and Willis (Nancy) Fischer. Bob served his community as a grocery store manager for over 40 years, starting at Brigg's IGA. At times, he served as a volunteer Deputy Sheriff and owned commercial real estate in the area. He was a hard worker, honest and caring. There was a pure genuineness about him - everyone knew they could always count on him for help and would be welcomed as a friend. The warmth of his personality was easily seen by his smile. He is survived by his sons, Travis and Jim; brother, Willis; and numerous relatives. A Celebration of Life will be at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, July 2, 2019 at Maupin Funeral Home in Fulton, Missouri with Pastor Bruce Williamson officiating. Visitation will be from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. on Monday, July 1, 2019 at the funeral home. Interment with Military Honors will be in Callaway Memorial Gardens.
