Roy Vernon Elliott

Roy Vernon Elliott, 91, of Granbury, Texas passed away on Tuesday, June 4, 2019. Roy was born on August 31, 1927 in Claysville, Missouri to Henry Martin and Lillie M. Elliott. He proudly served in the United States Navy. He was a mail handler for the railroad and retired from there after over 30 years. He escorted patients from Fulton State Hospital for medical appointments and court hearings. He was a transport driver for Serve, and he was a volunteer driver for Meals on Wheels. Roy loved reading and he read every National Geographic from 1940 until 1996. He had an extensive knowledge of books and he could remember everything he read. Roy married Shirley Kliendienst on June 14, 1996 in Poplar Bluff, Missouri and they moved to Granbury, Texas in 1999. Roy and Shirley visited Hawaii, many National Parks and Historical Sites. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Juanita Pearl Davis; brothers, Gerald Elliott, John Elliott, Walter Elliott, and Douglas Elliott; and his former wife Laura R. Elliott. Roy is survived by his loving wife of 22 years, Shirley Elliott; children, Brad Elliott and wife Marian, Valerie Holley and husband Lindy, Merle Dean Hoover and wife Julie and Tim L. Hoover and wife Doris; brother, James Elliott; sisters, Shirley Stanford, Marie Williams, and Myra Dever; and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. A celebration of life will be held at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, June 6, 2019 at Wiley Funeral Home Chapel, Granbury, Texas. Visitation will be at 1:00 p.m. until service time, Thursday at Wiley Funeral Home.
