Myrofora Jatho

Myrofora Jatho, 92, of Fulton, Missouri, passed away on Sunday, June 30, 2019, at Solstice Senior Living in Columbia, Missouri. Myrofora was born on October 13, 1926 in Boston, Massachusetts to the late John and Anna Nalpantoglou Jacovides. Her step-father, William John Kafouse was also a very important part of her life and he preceded her in death. She married Glenn Albert Jatho in 1958 in Fulton, and he preceded her in death in 2006. She was born, baptized and raised in the Greek Orthodox Church in Boston and was a member of Saint Luke the Evangelist Greek Orthodox Church in Columbia. She was also a member of Daughters of Penelope and Ahepa Senior Ladies Auxiliary. She attended First Presbyterian Church in Fulton with her family. Myrofora graduated from Girls High School in Boston in 1946 and earned her Registered Nurse degree from Ralph K. Davies Medical Center in San Francisco, California in 1954. She was a member of the Medical Division for the Disaster Council and Corps also in San Francisco. In 1978, she earned her Master's Degree from Columbia College in Columbia, Missouri in Behavioral Science and Education, Public Health. She earned her Bachelors of Arts degree in Nursing Education from the University of Missouri in Columbia in 1975. She worked from 1946 until 1952 in nursing service as a obstetrics, newborn nursery, premature and post-partum labor and delivery nurse, instructor of obstetrics for new mothers baby care. From 1954-1957 she worked as a Civil Service Nurse at Fort Belvoir Army Base in Fairfax County, Virginia and the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in Bethesda, Maryland. She had worked at the Department of Mental Health at the University of Missouri and also as an Audrain County Public Health Nurse in Mexico, Missouri and then at the Harry S. Truman Veteran's Hospital in Columbia and at the Fulton State Hospital. She was a college school nurse at Westminster College and the University of Missouri and from 1960 until 1970 she was a charge nurse at Westminster College in Fulton. She served as the Community Health Director of Nursing at Lenoir Care Center in Columbia and taught nursing education at Lincoln University in Jefferson City, Missouri. She also served as a consultant at all the nursing homes in Callaway County. From 1963-1973 she was a camp nurse and health director at several camps in the Midwest and at Camp Birchwood in New Hampshire. Survivors include three sons, David Jatho of Fulton, James Jatho of Los Angeles, California and Albert Jatho of Orlando, Florida; one brother, George Jacovides of Santa Rosa, California and four grandchildren, Margiolio Jatho of Columbia, Myrofora Eleni Jatho of Columbia, Glenn Constantine Jatho of Fulton and Anna Elisabeth Jatho of Columbia. She was also preceded in death by one son, Charles Beals; one brother, William John Kafouse Sr. and one sister, Chressie Jacovides Scarbro. Funeral services will be at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 13, 2019 at First Presbyterian Church, 718 Court Street in Fulton. Burial will follow at White Cloud Cemetery near Fulton. Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. until the time of the service.
