Lloyd Silas Peak

Lloyd Silas Peak, 91, formerly of Vista, California, passed away on September 18, 2018, at Presbyterian Manor in Fulton, Missouri. Lloyd was born on November 28, 1926, in Mulvane, Kansas to the late Fred and Susie Courtney Peak. He was married on April 12, 1957, to Sara Ann Schrooten and she preceded him in death in 2003. He served in the United States Maritime Service, and later in the US Army in both the United States and Korea during the Korean War. A graduate of California State University, Long Beach and Stanford University, he taught chemistry for 26 years at MiraCosta College in Oceanside, California. He was a member of the Escondido First Church of the Nazarene, where he is best remembered for his service as an usher. Lloyd loved telling jokes. He had more than two dozen jokebooks in his library, in addition to many pages of jokes he collected from magazines and the internet. He also loved animals and was a longtime member of the San Diego Zoological Society. He was especially fond of Churchill the Cat, the official house cat of Churchill Terrace in Fulton where he lived for seven months. He is survived by two sons, Rev. Clayton Peak and wife, Rev. Rebecca Dunger Peak of Fulton; and Dr. S. Andrew Peak of Vista, California. Lloyd was also preceded in death by two brothers, Wayne and Duane Peak, and two sisters, Maxine Meineke, and Mary Mildred Peak. A Celebration of Mr. Peak's Life will be held from 2-4 p.m. on Sunday, September 30, 2018, in the Fellowship Hall of Court Street United Methodist Church in Fulton, Mo. A visitation and funeral will take place at Allen Brothers Mortuary in Vista, Calif., followed by a burial at Eternal Hills in Oceanside, Calif. on Friday, October 19, 2018.
