Chester E. Marler

Chester E. Marler, 98, passed away on Monday, November 5, 2018. He was born on April 12, 1920, to the late James and Emily Marler in Missouri. Chester was the oldest of 10 children. He is a veteran of the U.S. Army Air Corps serving during World War II. Chester worked as a letter carrier in St. Louis, Mo., for 37 years. He is a member of Lynnhaven United Methodist Church in Virginia Beach. Chester was passionate about classical musical, playing billiards in his earlier years, and fishing in the pond on his property in Missouri. He led a group in Fulton, Mo., called 'The Senior Singers' who visited local nursing homes weekly to entertain residents. While in Fulton, he was a member of Court Street UMC. He loved being part of the church choirs in the various churches he attended. His sweet, gentle spirit will be greatly missed by all who knew him. Chester is preceded in death by his beloved wife, June Marler, and daughters, Judith Ann Smith and Carole Sue Sigite. Left to cherish his memory are his daughter, Janet Lorts and husband, John; grandchildren: Angela Simmons (Nick), Peter Lorts, Kate Theil (Ryan), Tait Sigite, Jennifer Smith, and Amanda Harding (Tim), along with 15 great-grandchildren. Mr. Marler's family would like to thank the amazing staff at Marina Bay, Atlantic Shores, in Virginia Beach for their loving care of him over the past eight months. A memorial service will be held at Kings Grant Baptist Church, 873 Little Neck Rd., Virginia Beach on Thursday, November 15, 2018, at 11:00 a.m.
