Thomas Lynn Maupin, 75, of Fulton, passed away on Tuesday, October 30, 2018, at Harry S. Truman Veterans Hospital. He was born on January 28, 1943, in Fulton, Missouri, the son of the late Glen Yates Maupin and the late Eula Florence (Carr) Maupin. Tom proudly served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. Service to his country and fellow veterans did not end when he was honorably discharged. Throughout his life, Tom was actively involved with Veterans of Foreign Wars, serving as Commander of VFW Post 2657, Quarter Master of District 9, as well as various other posts within the district. He also held memberships in Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 468 of O'Fallon, Missouri, and American Legion Post #5 of Jefferson City. In 2012, Tom was instrumental in reviving the Fulton Independence Day Parade, which has continued to grow with each passing year. Tom attended Fulton Public Schools and Kemper Military School and Junior College. For many years, he was part owner and worked as a funeral director for Maupin Funeral Home, and taught Mortuary Science. He was civically minded and involved in the community, holding memberships in Masonic Lodge and all Masonic Orders, Lions Club, and Missouri Funeral Directors Association. Tom enjoyed yearly trips to watch horse races in Hot Springs, Arkansas with his friends. He loved spending time with his three grandchildren who were his pride and joy. Those remaining to mourn his passing and treasure his memory include daughters, Pamela Gilman (Billy) of Fulton, and Miki O'Brien of Jefferson City; grandchildren, Boone Teel, Aidan O'Brien, and Grady O'Brien; a host of nieces and nephews, and cousins, including Robert H. Funk of Riverton, Wy, and Bobby Dale Carr of Fulton. Along with his parents, Tom was preceded in death by brother, Gene "Jeep" Maupin. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, November 7, 2018, at Maupin Funeral Home in Fulton with Melody Craighead officiating. Friends will be received from 4:30 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, November 6, 2018, at the funeral home with a VFW Memorial Service being held at 7:00 p.m. Interment with Military Honors will be in Callaway Memorial Gardens.
