Lawrence John (Rooster) Stuckenschneider

Lawrence John Stuckenschneider (Rooster), age 88, of Martinsburg, passed away Friday, January 5, 2018, at SSM Health, St. Mary's Audrain. He had been residing at the Missouri Veteran's Home in Mexico, Mo. since November 2016. Rooster was born on May 5, 1929, to Theodore and Elizabeth (Ahrens) Stuckenschneider in Martinsburg, Mo. He married Carolyn Jett Stuckenschneider on February 19, 1966, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Martinsburg, Mo. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, January 9, 2018, at 10 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Martinsburg with Father Joseph Abah andDeacon Ron Deimeke officiating. Visitation will be held Monday evening from 4-7 p.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Martinsburg with a Prayer Service at 7:00 p.m. Burial will be in the St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery in Martinsburg with full military honors. At the age of 16, Rooster started working for Bill Kersting Truckline and later Dutch Fennewald hauling cattle and feed while also helping on the family farm. He vividly remembered his numerous trucking trips to Chicago. On November 30, 1951, he was drafted in the United States Army. He took his basic training at Camp Chaffee, Arkansas. After a furlough of seven days, he was sent to Korea to fight on the front lines of the Korean War for 11 months. After being wounded twice, he was sent home to Camp Crowder in Missouri and served out his remaining time as a Corporal in the Army Reserve. For his service, he was awarded Korean Service Medal, United Nations Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Good Conduct Army Medal and Bronze Star. Mr. Stuckenschneider was a member for over 50 years of Martinsburg Knights of Columbus, Council 1270 Martinsburg American Legion 0552, Wellsville VFW and St. Joseph Catholic Church. Once back home, he returned to trucking and farming. He began a very successful career of farming purchasing his first 320 acres at a price of $195/acre. He devoted his entire life to his family and his love of farming and raising cattle. He was preceeded in death by his parents, Theodore and Elizabeth Stuckenschneider; two sons, Ricky Stuckenschneider and Chris Stuckenschneider; sisters, Dorothy Henry and Betty Birsinger. Survivors include his wife of 51 years, Carolyn Stuckenschneider; daughter and son-in-law, Tammy Stuckenschneider and Ryan Jackson of Martinsburg; grandsons, Steven Stuckenschneider of Columbia, Treyton Kobush of Martinsburg, and Talon Kobush of Columbia; his mother-in-law, Mildred Allen of Fulton; two brothers, Carl Eugene (Peter) and (Frankie) Stuckenschneider and Joseph Bernard (Little Joe) Stuckenschneider of Martinsburg; sister, Claire Ann (Eddie) Lowry of Mexico and numerous nieces and nephews. Serving as pallbearers will be Treyton Kobush, Talon Kobush, Randy Stuckenschneider, Ronnie Stuckenschneider, Gary Stuckenschneider, Steven Stuckenschneider, and Robert Hawkins.
