Margaret Ruth "Peggy" Kummer, 95, of Ashland, went home to her best friend, Jesus, on Tuesday, April 24, 2018. She was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania on December 5, 1922, the daughter of the late Rex Toogood and the late Ethel (Baird) Toogood. She married Edgar Henry Kummer on July 14, 1945, and together they raised seven children. Peggy served in the Army Air Corp during World War II. After raising her children, she returned to school and became a registered nurse at age 48. She worked at Barnes Jewish Hospital in St. Louis for approximately 25 years. Peggy was a personal representative and advocate in the Vietnam Relocation Program, sponsoring the Lam family. She loved her family and Jesus. She was a devoted mother who cherished the family God blessed her with, loving them unconditionally and placing their needs before her own. Through her failing health, her unfaltering faith in Jesus carried her though difficult days. Peggy taught Sunday School for many years in St. Louis and had been a member of Callaway Christian Church for 20 years. Peggy is survived by her children, Paula Breitenbach and husband Rich of St. Louis, Mo., Alexa Muller and husband Robert of Bristol, Conn., Rex Kummer and wife Karen of Mt. Pleasant, S.C., Mark Kummer and wife Mickie of Ashland, Mo., Joanne Hellman and husband Rich of West Chicago, Ill., Beth Beck and husband Rudy of Carpentersville, Ill., and Lisa Janowski and husband Mike of Carpentersville, Il.; 16 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. Along with her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by sister, Ethel Toogood; and two infant brothers. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, April 29, 2018, at Callaway Christian Church, 2051 Silver Drive in Fulton with Minister Mark Kummer officiating. Visitation will be held from 1:00 p.m. until the time of service at Callaway Christian Church. Interment will be held in Callaway Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations are suggested to Callaway Christian Church, c/o Maupin Funeral Home, 301 Douglas Boulevard, Fulton, MO 65251.
