Harley Dean Garrett

Harley Dean Garrett, 88, of Fulton, was called to his Heavenly home on Wednesday, April 4, 2018. He was born in Reform, Missouri on September 9, 1929, the son of the late Oran Garrett and the late Ruby (Shiverdecker) Garrett. On August 14, 1948, Harley was married to Fay (Divers) Garrett. She survives his passing. Harley worked for International Shoe Factory, Harbison Walker and Farmer's Mutual Crop Insurance. He later owned Planters Mutual and Unique Designs Florist. Harley was a man of profound faith. He was a founding member of Heartland Church of the Nazarene and a lifetime member of Gideon's International. He served on the District Advisory Board for Church of the Nazarene and Kingdom Christian Academy Board. Along with Fay, he enjoyed attending Southern Gospel Concerts. Harley enjoyed farming and raising cattle on their farm in Carrington. He was an avid St. Louis Cardinals and Missouri Tigers fan. An involved and loving father, Harley was actively present in the lives of his children. When they were young, he coached their little league teams and as they became adults, he worked alongside them on the farm and in their businesses. He will be remembered as a gentle man who had a smile and kind word for everyone. Those remaining to mourn his passing and cherish his memory include his wife of nearly 70 years; sons, Gary Garrett (Naomi) of Fulton, and Kent Garrett (Lisa) of Fulton; daughters, Janis Austin (Fred) of Fulton, and Lisa Clark of Fulton; brother, Travis Garrett (Sharon); sisters, Pauline Kroell and Christine Houchins; grandchildren, Carl Garrett (Robin), Todd Garrett (Karen), Dave Hufstedler, Dana Janssen (Stephan), Daren Hufstedler (Krista), Sarah Armistead (Sam), Amanda Reckner (Justin), Kenli Garrett, Kristen Murray, and Ashton Gaboury (Joe); and great-grandchildren, Joe, Carson, Tanner, Easten, Eva, Danielle, Sophia, Aaron, Stephan Jr., Rebecca, Garrett, Allie, Ethan, Natalie, Samarah, Copeland, Collins, Jaxon, and Olivia; and great-great-grandchildren, Harper and Judah. Harley was greeted in Heaven by his parents and son, Kevin Garrett. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 7, 2018 at Maupin Funeral Home in Fulton with Reverend Jason Buckwalter and Reverend Gary Garrett officiating. The family will receive friends from 12:00 p.m. until the time of service at the funeral home. Interment will be in Callaway Memorial Gardens.
