Mary Jeanette Dunlap, 71, passed to her heavenly home on Wednesday, March 28, 2018, at Loudoun Hospital in Leesburg, Va., following a lingering illness. She was born September 8, 1946, in Wichita, Kan., the first child of the late Roy and Frances (Hewling) Dunlap. As part of a military family, she lived in Kansas, Minnesota, Alaska and New York before the family settled in Fulton, Mo. in the early 1960s. Mary graduated from Fulton High School and University of Missouri, Columbia, later obtaining a Masters degree from Trinity University in San Antonio. She pursued a teaching career in Texas becoming a reading specialist and beloved elementary teacher. She also took great pride in her rescue dogs and gave each the love and attention they deserved. Mary's gifts also included gardening and she attained Master Gardner status. After retiring, Mary settled in Oklahoma, enjoyed volunteering, her dogs, and staying in touch with family and friends - - who always enjoyed her quick wit and warm, fun-loving spirit. Serious health issues in recent years caused her relocation to Virginia to be nearer family. She will be greatly missed and lovingly remembered by her sister, Margaret Dunlap, Reston, Va.; her brother, Robert Dunlap, Fulton, Mo.; her nephew, Joe (Lydia) Facen and nieces, Kaya and Luna, and nephew, Joseph; many cousins, special caregivers, dear friends and a host of students and fellow teachers. Per her request, there will be no final service. Memorial donations are suggested to the animal rescue agency of the donor's choice. Condolences may be left for the family at [email protected].
