Maxine Marie Sands

Maxine Marie Sands, 76, of Fulton, Mo., went to be with the lord on Thursday, August 31, 2017, at her home surrounded by family. She was born December 11, 1940 in Perry County, Mo. to Ralph and Katheryn (Staffen) Kennon. She was united in marriage to Elmer Lee Sands on August 1, 1959. Maxine was a member of the Hams Prairie Christian Church, Fulton Garden Club, and Mokane Chapter #352 which consolidated with Fulton Chapter #35 Order of the Eastern Star. She was a loving mother and grandmother, as well as a caregiver, gardener, seamstress and cook. She served as a Girl Scout leader, Bible School and Sunday School teacher, and Church Board member for many years. She is survived by her husband of 58 years and her children, Patti Sands (Columbia, Mo.), Donna (Kendall) Hughes (Park Hills, Mo.), Keith (Karen) Sands (Columbia, Mo.), Laura Sands (Columbia, Mo.), Anita (Gary) Dunnavant (Fulton, Mo.); granddaughters, Kendra (Adam) Slagle (Fulton, Mo.), Danielle (Cristopher) Zelaya (Columbia, Mo.), Kaylee Sands (Columbia, Mo.), Molly Dunnavant (Fulton, Mo.); and a great-grandchild expected to arrive in February; nieces who she helped raise, Karen Kelly (Park Hills, Mo.), Tina Scott (Fredericktown, Mo.) and Godson Andrew (Crystal and Brayden) Burcham (Hillsboro, Mo.); siblings Shirley Pinkston (Bourbon, Mo.), James (Kathy) Kennon (St. Charles, Mo.), John (Mary) Kennon (Park Hills, Mo.), Linda (Jerry) Robinette (Farmington, Mo.), Paul (Penny) Kennon (Farmington, Mo.), and Wanda Rivera (Kennedale, Texas). Also surviving are many loving family members, friends, and children she cared for who knew her as "Nanny", "Mrs. Maxine" or "Grandma Maxine". She was preceded in death by her parents and sister, Betty (Tom) Scott. Memorials are suggested to Hams Prairie Christian Church or Leadwood First Church of God. Visitation will begin at 5:00 p.m., Friday, September 8, 2017 with an Eastern Star and Memorial service following at 7:00 p.m. at Hams Prairie Christian Church, Junction of Hwy C and State Rd AD, Fulton, Mo. In addition, on Sunday, September 10, 2017 there will be Visitation at 1:00 p.m. with a Memorial service following at 2:00 p.m. at the Leadwood First Church of God, 909 School St., Leadwood, Mo. Burial will follow at Hillview Memorial Gardens, Farmington, Mo.
