Gwendolyn Schafer, 63, of Fulton, passed away on Wednesday, October 11, 2017, following a valiant battle against cancer. She was born on September 28, 1954, in Wilbarger County, Texas, the daughter of Richard Gene Hunter and the late Ethyl Sue (Garner) Hunter. Gwen worked for AZZ for more than 20 years. She also tended bar at VFW Post 2657 in Fulton. Gwen loved to travel and enjoyed being around people. Loved by many, her loss will be deeply felt by those who were fortunate to have known her. Those remaining to cherish her memory include son, William Shawn "Bill" Scott of Hallsville; daughter, Stephanie Jean Carinder of Harrisburg; brothers, Steven Marshall Hunter (Jeannette) of Ky., and Richard Gene Hunter Jr. (Donna) of Millersburg; grandchildren, Haley Marie Scott, Miranda Jordan Carinder, Hunter Nicole Carinder and Dalton James Carinder; and great-grandchild, Maddix Ryan Stanfield. Gwen was preceded in death by her mother and granddaughter, Bailey Nicole Carinder. A Celebration of Life will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 14, 2017, at Maupin Funeral Home in Fulton with Pastor Bruce Williamson officiating. The family will receive friends from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service at the funeral home.
