Hazel Jean Stubblefield, 91, of Auxvasse, passed away on Friday, May 26, 2017 at Boone Hospital Center. She was born on January 26, 1926, the daughter of the late Herschel B. Houf and the late Fern (Vincent) Houf. Hazel was united in marriage to Bill Cathcart who preceded her in death and later to LeRoy Stubblefield who also preceded her passing. Hazel worked as a secretary for the University of Missouri and in the kitchen at Auxvasse Elementary School. She loved canning the harvest from her vegetable garden and growing flowers. A gifted seamstress, she enjoyed sewing and quilting. Hazel was an avid St. Louis Cardinals baseball fan. For many years, she worked with the youth of Callaway County through 4-H. Those remaining to cherish her memory include son, Jerry Cathcart of Auxvasse; daughters, Cheryl Dillard (Doug), and Patty Foster (Jay), all of Auxvasse; brother, Jimmie Houf (Alice) of Hams Prairie; sister, Joyce Schulte of Columbia; grandchildren, Gail Higgins, Erin Anthony (Chris), Travis Foster (Claire), and Christine Foster; and four great-grandchildren. Along with her parents and husbands, Hazel was preceded in death by brother, H. Glen Houf; and grandchildren, Heather Arnold and Justin Foster. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 30, 2017 at Maupin Funeral Home with Reverend Jim Graham officiating. The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. until the time of service at the funeral home. Interment will be in Auxvasse Cemetery.
