Lawrence Allen Hamilton

Lawrence Allen "Larry" Hamilton, 88 years old, of Fulton, Missouri, passed away on Fri., June 16, 2017, at the Harry S. Truman Veteran's Hospital in Columbia, Mo. He was born on February 21, 1929, to the late John E. and Beulah Lawrence Hamilton. He was married to Hitomi Okuhara in 1951. He later married Kathryn Higgins on February 4, 1961, who survives at the home. Larry was a heavy equipment mechanic for many years and worked at various places before retiring from the Fulton Public School Transportation Department. He served his country during the Korean War from 1948 through 1952. While in the Army, he spent 40 months in Japan at the Yokohama Engineer Heavy Equipment Rebuilt Depot as a heavy equipment mechanic. Larry had a gift for working with his hands and had many hobbies. Following his retirement, he found great enjoyment from woodworking. He was so invested in his craft that he harvested and dried his own wood on the family farm and used it to craft many beautiful things for his loved ones. One of his signature accomplishments was making pens and pencils which he gave away to family and friends. He was a member of the Unity Baptist Church, the NRA and a lifetime member of the VFW. Left to cherish his memory are his spouse of 56 years; son, E. Kenji (Tia) Hamilton of Fredericksburg, Va.; daughters, Christine (Eddie) Groff and Vicki (Mike) Dennison of Columbia, and Lori (Mark) Croy and Susan Hamilton of Fulton; sister, Evelyn Brooks of Fulton; a nephew, Billy (Judy) Brooks of Fulton; nine grandsons, Joshua (Brooke) Dennison and John (Leslie Colley) Dennison of Columbia, Robert (Rhiannon) McKee of Jefferson City, Mark McKee of Portland, Ore., Allen Croy of Fulton, Jason Hamilton, Orlando, Fla., Justin Hamilton, Aberdeen, Md., Jeremy Hamilton (Jennifer) of Toledo, Ohio, and Isaac Hamilton of Fredericksburg, Va.; nine granddaughters, Dr. Kathryn (Dr. Joshua) Arnone of Wentzille, Heather (Kreg) Billups of Brookfield, Ashley (David) Singleton of Hallsville, Caitlin (Jeff) Guinn, Carina O'Neill, Jennifer (Ryan) Lynn and Jessica (R. J.) Platto, Columbia, Amanda (Chuy) de Leon of San Antonio, Texas, Emma Hamilton, Fulton; and 25 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, June 21, 2017, at Maupin Funeral Home in Fulton with Rev. James O. Preston and Pastor Bruce Williamson officiating. The family will greet friends from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, June 20, 2017, at the funeral home. Interment with Military Honors will be in Callaway Memorial Gardens.
