Leonard Lee Hodges, 61, Holts Summit, Mo., passed away on Wednesday, January 25, 2017, at his home with his family by his side. He was born on January 9, 1956 in Jefferson City, the son of Richard Lee and Shirley Mae (Smith) Hodges. He was married on June 7, 1975 in Holts Summit, Mo., to his high school sweetheart, Shirley Backer. He graduated from New Bloomfield High School and William Woods University with a degree in Business Management. He retired with many awards from the United States Army (Chief Warrant Officer) after 22 years, then retired 20 years later from the State of Missouri - MODOT (IT Manager) and Department of OA (Project Manager). While serving in the military, Leonard traveled the world. He was stationed in three countries and five states. He held very prestigious positions such as an instructor for satellite communications, a manager of a satellite dish in Panama and a White House Communication Agency Officer during the Clinton Administration. As a pillar of the community, Leonard was very active with his church (Providence Baptist Church Deacon, Building Committee Chair, and more); religious organizations: Gideon's (officer and jail ministry member) and the Grand Crossing Association Board Member. He served on the New Bloomfield School Board, New Bloomfield Alumni Association, and the New Bloomfield Historical Society. He was very active with Boy Scouts (Scout Master) and Girl Scouts. He loved teaching, where he continued as an instructor for PMP courses. Leonard loved spending time with his family. He made many memories traveling with them. He loved his family so much, especially his granddaughters; they are his greatest joy. Not only was he a great man, but he lived his life by example. His strength, positivity, and compassion are inspirational qualities that he instilled in others. God's love always shown through him. Survivors include: his wife, Shirley of the home; one son, Michael Hodges of St. Louis, Mo.; one daughter, Kelly Stewart (Jim) of Louisburg, Kan.; three granddaughters, Audrey, Erin and Michelle; his mother, four brothers and one sister. He was preceded in death by his father; one grandson, Levi Stewart; and one brother, Larry Hodges. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. on Monday, January 30, 2017 at Providence Baptist Church, 426 Glenwood Dr., New Bloomfield, Mo. Officiating will be Rev. Jim Shaver. Burial will be in Summit Memorial Park in Holts Summit with full military honors. Visitation will be on Sunday, January 29, 2017 from 3-6 p.m. at Debo Funeral Home, 833 Court Street, Fulton, Mo. and from 10-11 a.m. on Monday, January 30, 2017 at the church.
