Helen Krebs Montgomery, 90, of Jefferson City, Missouri, formerly of Mokane, Missouri, passed away on Sunday, February 12, 2017, at St. Joseph Bluffs in Jefferson City where she had lived for the past five years. She was born on January 17, 1927, in St. Louis, Mo., the daughter of the late Sedwic "Ted" Krebs and the late Mary (Blanchard) Krebs. She grew up in Mokane and was united in marriage to Ralph Montgomery on May 11, 1946. They were married for 61 years prior to his passing on June 25, 2007. Helen graduated from Mokane High School in 1944. After graduating, she worked in the office of the Fulton Shoe Factory while waiting for Ralph to return from the war. After they married, they lived in Mokane, Mo. In 1958, they moved to Jackson, Mo. where she was a busy mom and homemaker, active in church and scouting. They remained in Jackson for 15 years before returning to Mokane. She worked at both the Steedman Bank and Summit Bank before retiring. She was a member of the Mokane United Methodist Church having joined the same day as her husband in 1939. She was also a member of Mokane United Methodist Women. She enjoyed reading and fishing, and working in her beautiful flower gardens. Most of all, she loved spending time with family. She will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by one son, Jim Montgomery and his wife Becky of Austin, Texas.; three daughters, Karen Turley and her husband Wayne of Jackson, Mo., Debby Lohman and her husband Bob of Jackson, Mo., and Jan Smart and her husband Myles of Tebbetts, Mo.; one sister, Dora Smart of Wentzville, Mo.; eight grandchildren, Rachel Jefferson of Eugene, Ore., Claire Montgomery of Austin, Texas, Nathan Turley of Jackson, Mo., McKenzie Walter of St. Louis, Mo., Nick and Colby Lohman of Jackson, Mo., Kaci Smart of Columbia, and Keli Smart of St. Louis, Mo.; 11 great-grandchildren; two nieces, Marilyn Baumhoer of Jefferson City, Mo., and Carolyn Eden of Innsbrook, Mo.; and other relatives and dear friends. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, February 16, 2017, at Maupin Funeral Home in Fulton with Pastor Jim Mueller officiating. The family will receive friends from 10:00 until the time of service. Interment will be in Steedman Cemetery.
