Carl Laverne Gastineau, age 86, of New Bloomfield, passed into the arms of the Lord on Friday, August 18, 2017, surrounded by his family. He fought hard to remain with us but God needed him more in Heaven. He was an amazing man, father and husband. Carl operated and owned a sawmill, Gastineau Lumber Co., from 1953 to 1988. His first sawmill was near Centerville, then he moved it to Pevely, then to Rhineland and eventually to New Bloomfield in 1965. In 1971 he founded Gastineau Pallet Co. with his son, Randy Gastineau. In 1988 he entered into the business of breeding ostriches. In addition, he farmed and raised cattle with his son since 1988. For many years he owned Timberline Stables in New Bloomfield. When not working, Carl enjoyed raising and showing Quarter Horses. In 2017 Carl and Shirley were inducted into the Missouri Quarter Horse Association Hall of Fame. Carl's stallion, Ima Zippa Goodbar, is a nationally renowned Quarter Horse stallion with offspring from New York to California. At night when he couldn't work, Carl loved Cardinal baseball and MU basketball and never missed a game on television. Carl Gastineau was born February 23, 1931, to Cahm and Belle (Goggins) Gastineau in Centerville, Mo. He was extremely loving and proud of his family. His wife of 66 years, Shirley (Steele) Gastineau survives in the home. Son, Randy (Mary Lynes) Gastineau and daughter, Lynn (Tracy Stewart) Gastineau of New Bloomfield, were blessed to have him as a father. He was PaPa to four granddaughters and one grandson: Tracy Gastineau of Fulton, Mo., Amy (Ashley Morgan) Gastineau of Columbia, Mo., Brooke (Chad) Johansen of San Jose, Calif., Lacey (Ryan) Schmidt of Houston, Texas and Dean (Kim Chitwood) Crocker of Holts Summit, Mo. He was very proud of his seven great-grandchildren: Shaylyn and Dillon Johansen, Deklyn and Cooper Gastineau, Austin, Grey and Taylor Schmidt called him PaPa2. Carl was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers (Joy and Gerald); and two sisters (Thelma and Ernestine.) He will be remembered with love by numerous nieces, nephews as well as an amazing number of friends and acquaintances through his various business and hobby enterprises. The family will receive friends to celebrate Carl's life from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Tuesday, August 22, 2017, at Slater-Millard Family Funeral Chapel in Holts Summit.
