Overton Thomas Harris, 88, of Fulton, passed away on Monday, October 10, 2016, at Fulton Presbyterian Manor. He was born on March 4, 1928 in Fulton, the third son of Tyre Crawford and Mary (Cannon) Harris. He was married to Rosemary Land on May 3, 1953 in Bedford, Indiana. She preceded him in death in 2008. Mr. Harris graduated from Fulton Public Schools and Westminster College in the Class of 1950. He was a member of Beta Theta Pi, social fraternity, Omicron Delta Kappa, honorary scholastic fraternity and other local collegiate organizations. He served with the 175th Military Police battalion during the Korean War. Mr. Harris was employed by The Callaway Bank for his entire working career, retiring as President in 1999. He was a lifelong member of the First Presbyterian Church of Fulton, serving it as a deacon, elder, trustee, and a member of the choir for over 50 years. He was active in community and charitable causes including the Chamber of Commerce, Board of Associates of Fulton Colleges, serving as President of each; he also served as a member of the Board of Trustees of Westminster College and Presbyterian Manors of Mid-America, with two terms as Chairman of the latter organization, and on the Board of Education of the Fulton School District, twice as Chairman. Mr. Harris was an active stamp collector, being a member of the Kingdom Philatelic Association, the American Philatelic Society and the Christopher Columbus Philatelic Society. Overton is survived by daughter, Helen E. Logan (Vince); son, Thomas Harris (Brian Mahieu); grandchildren, Glenn O. Harris (Natasha), Tanner B. Russell (Angela), Katie Kreienheder, Jordan L. Harris, and Brynner T. Harris; and great-grandchildren, Josh Fowler, Aubrey Harris, Harris Kreienheder, and Zoe Bennett. Along with his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by son, Bruce T. Harris; and two brothers, T. Crawford Harris and John C. Harris Sr. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, October 14, 2016 at Fulton Presbyterian Church with Pastor Aaron White officiating. The family will receive friends from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service at the church.
