Dorothy Jane Maune

Dorothy Jane Maune, 103, of Fulton, passed away on Thursday, November 10, 2016, at Valley Park North Retirement Home in Fulton. She was born in Monroe City, Missouri on July 14, 1913, the daughter of the late Roy Lewis Buell and the late Ida (Boulware) Buell. The Buell family moved to Vandalia, Mo. in 1916, where Dr. Buell established a large animal veterinarian practice. On May 5, 1934, Dorothy was united in marriage to Allen R. Maune. He preceded her in death in 1993. Following graduation from Vandalia High School, where she received teacher training, Dorothy taught in one-room rural schools for four years. Marriage turned her talents as a teacher into a new life as a mother and homemaker. She was a member of First Christian Church where she served as a Sunday School teacher, a choir member, and active participant in the Education Department and Christian Women's Fellowship. Dorothy was committed to the Fulton Community as was evident with her work in American Red Cross and Girls Scouts. She also belonged to the P.E.O. sisterhood and Federated Study Club. She enjoyed knitting and shared her talents by teaching others to knit through the University of Missouri Extension Office. Dorothy was an avid golfer and active with the Missouri Women's Golf Association and Fulton Country Club. She enjoyed reading and playing bridge. Those remaining to cherish her memory include son, Buell Richard "Bud" Maune (Janet) of Seattle, Wash.; daughter, Marilyn Maune-Dunham of Fulton; five grandchildren, Shelly Beardsley (Doug), Jeffery Dunham (Dexie), Stephen Dunham (Shari), Douglas Hughes (Stefanie) and Dee Johnson (Jim); nine great-grandchildren: and one great-great-grandson. Dorothy was especially fond of two of her late-in-life caretakers, Marla Wetherell and Diane Wolfmeier. Along with her parents and husband, Dorothy was preceded in death by daughter, Sylvia Hughes and Sylvia's husband, Wayne Hughes; brother, Lewis W. Buell; and sister and nephew, Vesper and Don Eppelsheiemer. Funeral services will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Monday, November 14, 2016, at Maupin Funeral Home in Fulton with Reverend Mindy Kiepe officiating. The family will receive friends from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service at the funeral home. Interment will be in Callaway Memorial Gardens.
