Harry Cecil Rodescape

Harry Cecil Rodecape, 85, passed away Saturday, June 11, 2016, at the Missouri Veterans Home in Mexico, Missouri. Harry was born June 26, 1930, in Council Grove, Kansas to the late Parley C. and Bertha Elder Rodecape. He was married to Phyllis Gowin on April 5, 1953, in Fulton. He attended Fulton Public Schools and enlisted in the U.S. Army in March 1948, and served until January 31, 1953. He was in Occupation Troops in Japan when the war broke out in Korea and was immediately sent to Korea on June 26, 1950. He went in to battle on his 20th birthday. Harry was taken P.O.W. by the North Koreans on July 12, 1950. After marching towards camp for three days and nights, he and three others escaped and went three different directions. He lived in a cave for 76 days behind enemy lines before being rescued by friendly South Koreans. Harry was a member of Fulton V.F.W #2657, Fulton American Legion, American Ex- P.O.W. National Association and Missouri Ex-P.O.W. Association. Harry worked as a mechanic his entire life in the Fulton area and owned Rodecapes Radiator Service until his retirement in 1999. He enjoyed hunting and training dogs for the military. Survivors include his wife, Phyllis of Fulton; son, Doug Rodecape of Fulton; daughter, Stephanie Davis of Fulton; brother, Homer Rodecape of Pueblo, Colorado; grandchildren, Jeff Davis of Fulton, Stacy (Mark) Alley of Columbia, Missouri and Kathleen Davis of Columbia, Missouri; great-grandchildren, Ricky (Andrea) Revak who is stationed in Guam while serving the U.S. Navy, Scotty Revak who is stationed in Camp Lejeune, North Carolina while serving the U.S. Marine Corp, Rebecca Revak of Costa Rica, Freddie Jones and Carson Jones, both of Columbia, Missouri; sisters-in-law, Karol (Lawrence) Sapp of Sunset Hills, Missouri and Norma Gowin of Fulton along with several nieces and nephews. He was also preceded in death by brother, Glen Rodecape; brother-in-law, Kersey "Bud" Gowin; sisters-in-law, Carol Woolridge, Janeal Rodecape and Bessie Turner and his Aunt Millie Kemp, who he lived with for 10 years until he joined the military service. Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 16, 2016, at Debo Funeral Home in Fulton, Missouri. Burial with Military Honors will follow at Callaway Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, June 15, 2016, at the funeral home.
